Sass and Bide Heidi Middleton's Home Decor

Sass and Bide designer Heidi Middleton's humble abode.

Sass and Bide is probably my all time favourite design. I have loved them since I was a teenager (many years ago now....)

I was somewhat surprised to see what her gorgeous place in Palm Beach, NSW, Australia was like. One word.....Amazing.

It is eclectic, earthy and edgy all in one, much like the brand itself. So much of her personal style is imbued in the image of the brand.

                                                                                                                                         (images from Tales of Endearment)

I find her level of individuality so intriguing. So many people just aimlessly try to be like everyone else. It is so refreshing to see that she fearlessly follows her own style.

NATURAL BEAUTY- Sulfate-Free Shampoo

SPOTLIGHT ON:

NATURAL BEAUTY- Sulfate-Free Shampoo & Conditioner.

So I am a huge believer in keeping your beauty products as natural as you can. You know your skin is your body's largest organ AND it is highly absorbant. The idea of slathering chemicals all over it kind of freaks me out.

Clearly, we don't smother our skin with shampoo, however it does come into contact with the scalp and the rest of your body when you wash it off.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate (they are also known as Sulfates or SLS) are  two chemicals in particular which I shy away from. Anything which contains either of those ingredients is an immediate 'no' from me. It cuts out a lot of options. But that is a price I am willing to pay.

My favourite shampoo and conditioners so far have been from Aveda. Oh my. Luxury and eco-concious in one packaging!!!! DEVINE! They smell great, use limited scary ingredients and have an awesome exchange policy for their packaging (you can take your used packaging to the Aveda stores for recycling).

Brilliant.

Pretty sure this is the best everyday shampoo and conditioner I have ever used! (now that is saying something)

HITLIST

Studs. Studs. Studs. Studs. Studs.

So it seems that studs aren't going anywhere soon....

Here are some awesome ways to wear them without looking too badass. I think the neutral/gold tone stud combo is the best option, paired with faded denim. Really wanna get me some of those shorts. And the shoes.

Girl Crush

Oh wow....

(Images via Zimbio)

The ol' J.Hawk looks devine here. She has stepped out of her natural beachy look and has really ramped it up....
I have seen her irl and I can tell you she is actually more gorgeous in person!

NARS HAUL!!!

After a couple of months deliberation I finally took the plunge and purchased a few items from Nars Cosmetics. I scoured the web for reviews and settled on some basics to create a flawless complexion.

I settled for the following tidy collection of Nars classic products.....

(Clockwise left to right)
Nars Bronzer in Laguna #5101   NZ$100
Nars Sheer Matte Foundation in Barcelona #6066   NZ$100
Nars Sheer Glow in Punjab #6043   NZ$72
Nars Highlighting Blush Powder in Albatross #5131   NZ$64
Nars Duo Concealer in Custard/Ginger #1222   NZ$88

The Good:
1. The packaging is amazing.
2. The quality of the formulations seems reasonably good.
3. Did I mention I love the packaging?

I did go to Mecca Cosmetica and have them applied to my face by a wonderfully helpful assistant, however I think because I didn't actually get to play with them myself I couldn't really form a proper opinion of them. I guess it is only when you have them at home that you discover whether you like them or not.

It took me a little while to get used to the bronzer, but I am thrilled with it now. It seemed a little ruddy at first, but you just need to give it a good working in. Initially I was using

The concealer is great.  I like the two colours, using the lighter one under my eyes and darker one around the rest of my face. The consistency is nice, but I seem to be going through it at an alarming rate.

The highlighter, is probably a bit too yellow for my pink skin, however it is the perfect colour for the inner eye, with just the right amount of sheen. I love it! It was exactly what I was looking for. Again it needs a good blending in to work on the cheekbones.

NARS BARCELONA SHEER MATTE                    NARS PUNJAB SHEER GLOW

The Bad:
Lastly the foundations, oh the foundations. They are my biggest regret. I have seen them work wonders on some peoples skin. Mine is not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to love them. However, I am thinking I will need to pass them on to a good home.

The Ugly:
Did I mention the price? These have about a 50% markup in price compared with USA. Fortunately I managed to get them from there at a fraction of what you would pay here.

In the meantime, I am still on the search for the perfect foundation!

I try to keep my health and beauty routine as natural as possible, however there is just something irresistible about Nars products.....

Spotlight On - Rose Gold

SPOTLIGHT ON:
Rose Gold

I was really surprised when this trend cropped up, purely because I had only ever seen quite nana-ish styles of jewellery in rose gold.

But I can truely say I love it, and hope it will stick around a bit longer, because there is some really beautiful stuff out there.

I think to avoid it looking dated, the styles you choose need to be a little more fashion forward and punchy. I prefer a slightly softer colour in rose gold, compared to the really 'pink pink' colour. Nevertheless here is some of the gorgeous pieces available at the moment:

Michael Kors Oversized Rose Gold Watch

Pamela Love Sun Cuff
Marc by Marc Jacobs Small Turnlock Katie Bracelet

Made Her Think X-ray Stacked Helmut Ring

Jules Smith Perfect 10 Ring Set
